ICEA applauds govt’s clarification on transfer of goods between MOOWR units

The India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) has welcomed the government’s clarification regarding transfer of goods between MOOWR units.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has clarified that the benefit of duty deferment can be availed while transferring goods between MOOWR units, with applicable duty payable only when clearing goods to the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA).

Pankaj Mohindroo chairman ICEA said manufacturers operating under MOOWR units faced difficulties in this regard.

“This is a landmark clarification and puts all doubts at rest. India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) had raised this issue with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Department of Revenue India. We extend our gratitude to CBIC, MeitY, DoR, and PMO for resolving this issue at lightning speed and for their continued support in making India a leading electronics manufacturing nation,” he said.

Mohindroo said the complex and highly specialised supply chain ecosystem necessitates shifting goods from one unit to another, sometimes multiple times. “So any lack of clarity is not conducive.”
