Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has applied for allocation of 700 MHz airwaves band for offering 4G and 5G services in future. The telco has already written to the Department of Telecom (DoT) to this effect and is expecting a positive reply soon.

BSNL also expects to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese device maker ZTE soon. As part of the deal ZTE is expected to provide the telco with the latest technological updates. The MoU will also enable exchange of ideas between the telco and ZTE. The technology which is capable of transferring data at speeds of up to 10 GBPS (gigabits per second) is expected to bring a revolution in the market and will make other dependent technology such as Internet of Things (IoT) come into being.

BSNL had also entered into a collaboration with Finland-based Nokia. Under the deal the telco was looking forward to take advantage of Nokia's experience with various 5G-based initiatives in the global market.
