BSNL has earmarked around 4300 crore for capital expenditure in the current fiscal and plans to have 75,000 Wi-Fi hotspots by end of the next fiscal. The company is annually spending around 4000 crore in CapEx from its own resources. As the telecom sector is facing an overhaul, companies like BSNL are a must for healthy competition in the industry and for the benefit of consumers. They have installed around 5000 Wi-Fi hotspots, going to install 35,000 more Wi-Fi hotspots this fiscal, and planning another 35,000 to provide quality service to consumers. The data usage of past few days in the country may have surpassed data usage level by consumers in the US and China. Seeing such a sudden change in the telecom environment, the company does not want to miss the hold on the pie. The company has installed around 5000 Wi-Fi hotspots in partnership with two private companies but for next 35,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, the company will invest 600 crore in this fiscal. L&T has won contract for rolling out 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspots and HFCL will install another 15,000 hotspots. The Wi-Fi hotspots will have common equipment that will be linked to BSNL's mobile network and will be used for providing 4G service by the company.
