Xiaomi has launched the successor to its best-selling compact smartphone, the Redmi 4 in India. Dubbed as the Redmi 5, the handset is claimed to be an improvement in terms of design, camera and performance. The handset is part of Xiaomi's Make in India initiative and will be manufactured in India.
Redmi 5 Price and availability
Xiaomi Redmi 5 comes in three storage variants --2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage that comes at Rs 7,999, the second variant is priced at Rs 8,999 that offers 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage and lastly, the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant is priced at Rs 10,999. At this price, Xiaomi is touting the handset as the competition to Samsung Galaxy J7 Next and Motorola's Moto G5S. All handsets will be available starting next week online on mi.com and Amazon India website and offline on Mi Home stores. As part of launch offers, Reliance Jio is offering a Rs 2,200 cashback on the purchase of the Redmi 5. Also there is a 5% cashback for SBI card holders.
Redmi 5 Specifications
The Redmi 5 comes with a 18:9 aspect ratio display of 5.7-inch HD display of 1280x720p resolution. It comes with a metallic body and is the slimmest Redmi device with 7.7mm thickness.
The device is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor and is backed by a 3300mAH battery and is claimed to last more than 9 hours for continuous usage of gaming.
Redmi 5 comes with a 12MP rear camera with 1.25 micron pixel similar to Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones from Xiaomi. On the front, there is a 5MP camera along with a dedicated LED flash light.
It has reinforced corners that is claimed to help the handset be more durable and less prone to breakage in case of accidental drops. The Redmi 5 has the dual pyrolytic sheet that is optimized for heat dissipation in the Indian environmental conditions.
It runs on Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 and comes in four colour options -- Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue. – Gadgets Now
