Against creation of tower corporation

Members of the All India Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Executives’ Association will go on an indefinite ‘work to rule’ agitation from January 31 in support of their charter of demands.

The association has been opposing the creation of a subsidiary of BSNL to hive off the tower business and has been demanding 15 percent pay hike to all employees and officers in the organisation with retrospective effect from January 1, 2017.

“Though we resorted to a two-day strike in December, the unions demands have been ignored. The creation of a separate tower corporation will spell doom for BSNL as revenue from mobile services will come down,” S. Kamaraj, State Deputy Secretary, AIBSNLEA, said in a statement.

BSNL is also attempting to reduce the retirement age of its employees to 58 from 60 and oust employees under the guise of voluntary retirement, he alleged and urged the company to desist from implementing such moves. The agitation will begin with a satyagraha in New Delhi, he added. – The Hindu
