The networking market in India posted a growth of 14.2 percent in the first quarter of 2017 — almost double from 7.4 percent posted in Q4 in 2016 — with Cisco being the leader in the Router and Ethernet Switch segments, a new report said.

According to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Asia/Pacific quarterly tracker, the trend is headed by the Router market which witnessed a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 33.5 percent in Q1 2017 and stood at USD 92.5 million by vendor revenue. Cisco (75.7 percent) marked majority share in the Router market, followed by Huawei (6.8 percent) — which saw a YoY decline in Q1 2017 — and Nokia (6.4 percent).

The Ethernet Switch market stood at USD 126.6 million, marking a YoY growth of 12.4 percent with Cisco (63.4 percent) retaining its dominance in the market, followed by HPE (7.3 percent) and Huawei (2.8 percent).

“The digitisation efforts by the government will continue to have a positive impact on the networking market. The various smart city projects have laid a foundation to create a digital ecosystem highlighting the need to upgrade the current network infrastructure requirement,” said Niharika Kumar, Senior Networking Analyst, IDC India. The top verticals driving investments in the market were telecom, BFSI, professional services, government and education.

However, the WLAN market, standing at USD 42.3 million, showed a decline of 8.5 percent from last year. The slow growth was attributed to the dampened demand from all the segments after witnessing a traditional growth/spike during the last quarter.D-Link (24.6 percent) retained its top spot in the category, followed by Cisco (18.5 percent). – BGR
