Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that there was a huge exponential growth in the signal and telecom sector and digitisation had created new dimensions. The Minister, while inaugurating a workshop on Adaptation and & Sustainability of Modern Technologies in Railways Signaling & Telecom with focus on Skill Development and Make in India, said identifying right technology was important.He said the Make in India was an important programme of Government and Railways played a big role in this initiative. In this regard, the Minister said the loco production in Bihar was a big part of global supply under the Government's Make in India programme. Through this initiative, jobs were created as well as supply chain, he said.Value chain and supply chain were two different aspects like Make in India and Develop in India."Developing technology in India enhance the value chain, thus it should be our priority," Mr Prabhu.Stating that research was a neglected area in Railways, Mr Prabhu said his Ministry was planning to establish more R& centres."More R&D may help in developing technology and More R&D means more value addition," he added.He also said it should be a priority for the Railways on partnering in cutting edge technologies in areas of communication.He also called upon upgrading technologies in Railways, modernising it and imparting skills to those who operate these technologies."The focus should be a clear cut road-map on how India will look in 2022," he said.Those present on the occasion were Chairman, Railway Board, AK Mittal, and delegates from Zonal Railways and members from telecom industry. - Webindia
